National Museum of Natural History

If you’re planning a trip to Washington, DC, you’re probably looking forward to visiting the National Museum of Natural History. Many people visit the Museum to see the impressive dinosaurs and rare gems. They expect to see many fossils and animal and plant specimens in interesting galleries and exhibits. The NMNH certainly features all of this, but also much more that surprises and delights millions of visitors every year.

In addition to exhibits you associate with natural history, there are several galleries and exhibits at the NMNH devoted to cultural history. A Neanderthal burial site exhibit provides fascinating insights into human evolution, but also explores cultural history. There are also exhibits focusing on the origins of Western Culture that include Egyptian mummified cats and Mesopotamian writing.

You can tour a fascinating exhibit focused on the cultural history of Africa’s peoples at the NMNH. Exhibits devoted to Asian culture focus on Chinese Opera and Japanese Samurai Armor. Plains Indian, Native Alaskan, and Zuni exhibits at NMNH explore Native American cultures, and there are also exhibits focused on Pacific cultures.

These are just a few of the many intriguing cultural history exhibits you will be delighted to find at the NMNH.
