The celebrations are near! This year, Paris will be celebrating the 10th anniversary since the beginning of the annual Paris Techno Parade. It therefore goes without saying that the celebrations will be far greater than any held on previous years. Anyone who’s anyone on the techno scene will be there and hundreds of thousands of revellers will take to the streets in order to celebrate the event. This year’s party has taken to the theme of Europe, similar to many other exhibitions and events talking place in Paris this year and has been presented with the name, ‘Rock To The Beat’. I strongly advise any keen techno lover to go to Paris during this weekend and warn anyone who would describe this type of music as noise to flee their Apartments in Paris and look for a Hotels in Paris far away from the capital’s eastern side.
This parade began in 1998 and was inspired by Berlin’s Love parade, which attracts over a million spectators each year. The first year of this techno parade attracted over 70,000 participants and 30,000 spectators and so this year is said to bring almost ten times as much. This festival has been viewed with dubious eyes in the past as the police saw the mix of young party goers and techno music as a playground for drugs such as ecstasy. However, since proving its worth in previous years, the Paris techno parade has the full support of the local police. Communication between the authorities, the organizers and the participants is an essential tool to combating drug problems amongst the youth; over 80% of the crowd in the festival is under 25 thus proving an ideal base for raising awareness.
Over 50 floats carrying over 150 dancers, musicians and DJs will be hitting the streets in order to entertain their guests. Performers come from all over France and many other international countries, making this event one of the best recognised of its kind. The festival therefore attracts some of the most well-known performers of the genre such as Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Furthermore, during the weeks around the festival, you will be able to take part in the many extra activities the capital will hold. Take part in one of the dance classes held by top DJ, Cyril K, visit one of the many VJ (yep, that’s Visual jockeying) performances or one of the ‘open-mike’ type of events, where amateurs are invited to perform in a real high class club setting, on a real club night. Make sure to get your Paris accommodation nice and early in order to avoid disappointment. I do warn as well that if you really aren’t a fan of loud music then you may consider staying away from France’s capital during the second couple of weeks in September.

The streets didn’t last long. It’s Paris, full of small and sometimes realizable hope. The $ 300,000 grant came from Paris.
