Here are some good ways to get you started with maximizing your singing lessons:1. Posture - It’s in the way you stand!:Good posture is vital to make your lessons in singing worthwhile. If you do not hold yourself in the right manner you will reduce your inhalation and may strain your laryngeal muscles. It does not matter how good your singing lessons are if you do not have a good posture.2. Breathing - It’s in the way you breathe!:Many singers tend to hold their breath for long intervals when singing and this does not motivate the vocal chords into producing the right tone. How you breathe is one of the most important basics of singing and you need to learn how to do this correctly before taking up lessons.3. Learning - Take it all in!:The key to getting the most from your singing lessons is to learn about all aspects of singing. Many vocalists make the mistake of only focusing on what they aim to achieve but it is important to concentrate on everything you need to know to get it just right. Over a period of time, you will discover that you have developed a good singing voice. Your name may not be up there in lights and you might not be on the stage singing alongside your favorite performers but at least you will feel confident that you have got the very most out of your singing lessons

The most important way to really learn how to sing good is to practice, because the more you practice the better you get. Try to focus on pitch training and ear training because a good pitch is necessary to be a good singer and you only sing and play as well as you hear. All in all, if you really want to learn to sin better I encourage you to do it and forget about the myth that you have to be born with the ability to sing. Just remember that to become good at anything you need to practice and you need to be committed to doing it.

Music As Entertainment, Not Business

Concerts are always filled with security personnel to keep the event manageable. Another reason why organizers keep them there is to ensure that ticket holders go to their specified seats. But what should one do if the seats in the middle of the concert area are empty and all the people are crammed up at the sides? Would performers love this sight? Would they not feel disheartened at the vast space in the middle?

True performers would despise this sight. The artist in them will tell them to come up with a remedy for this sore scenario. This happened in the Air Supply concert in Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City of the Philippines.

Tickets were sold at different prizes, and naturally, many locals preferred the cheapest tickets. As a result, seats at the center are mostly empty, and almost all of the spectators stood like sardines at the sides. Air Supply noticed this, that’s why, at the beginning of the concert, they suggested that people gather at the center. Of course, everyone happily occupied the empty seats. The Php600 ticket holders now sat beside the Php3,000 ticket holders. If you brought a ticket worth Php3,000, it would be painful to see others with less expensive tickets elbow-to-elbow with you. But what can you do? What can the security personnel do? Could they dare disagree with the performers? Absolutely not. The least they can do is look at each other and smile at the fact that they cannot do anything about it.

On the side of the spectators, Air Supply’s call was a gift. Imagine, you spent only Php600, and you can see your idol up close and personal. Nothing could get better than that. You can sing your hearts out as the Air Supply perform your favorite songs.

Just make sure that in the middle of the merriment, you do not forget about your valuables. A magic wallet or a money clip credit card holder is an effective means of securing your hard-earned cash and valuable credit card. A business card holder may also be in your pocket, so make sure it stays in there. The concert is not a very good place to distribute your business card. After all, people are there to enjoy, not do business.

This concert clearly demonstrates that experienced international artists are there to perform and make people enjoy the show. They have less concern about the business side of things. After all, that is not their main goal while on stage. They are there to show what a fine artist and not what a good businessman they are.

Bluegrass Music

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and it is a sub-genre of country music. It has its own roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of immigrants from the United Kingdom and Ireland (particularly the Scots-Irish immigrants in Appalachia), as well as jazz and blues. In bluegrass, as in jazz, each instrument takes a turn playing the melody and improvising around it, while the others revert to backing; this is in contrast to old-time music, in which all instruments play the melody together or one instrument carries the lead throughout while the others provide accompaniment. Traditional bluegrass is typically based around acoustic stringed instruments, such as acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, and upright bass, with or without vocals.

For many people, the appeal of bluegrass music is that it is a relatively new form of music that sounds old. Most scholars agree that bluegrass first gained national attention when Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys appeared on the Grand Ole Opry in 1945. In addition to Bill Monroe himself, this legendary band consisted of Lester Flatt (guitar), Earl Scruggs (banjo), Chubby Wise (fiddle) and Cedric Rainwater (bass). The reason that bluegrass music sounds old is that it is a syntheses of many older styles of music.

Bluegrass’s second generation came to prominence in the mid- to late-1960s, although many of the second generation musicians were playing (often at young ages) in first generation bands prior to this. With the second generation came a growth in progressive bluegrass, as exemplified by second generation bands such as the New Grass Revival, Seldom Scene, The Kentucky Colonels,The Dillards. In that vein, first-generation bluegrass fiddler Vassar Clements, mandolin virtuoso David Grisman, Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia (on banjo) and Peter Rowan as lead vocalist collaborated in the band called Old and in the Way; the Garcia connection helped to expose progressive and traditional bluegrass to a rock music audience.
